CSUCI Science Carnival Helps Youth Learn About the Science of Oil and Gas in Ventura County

Ventura Citizens for Energy Independence connected with hundreds of Ventura County youth eager to learn about science and the world around them at the 10th annual California State University Channel Islands Science Carnival. Kids from preschoolers through 8th grade and their families attended the free November 3rd event at Oxnard’s Rio Vista Middle School, where they participated in science demonstrations with CSUCI students, as well as community groups, including Ventura Citizens for Energy Independence and their Careers in Energy program.

Students won prizes by testing their knowledge about the science of oil and gas, including questions about the origins of petroleum (dinosaurs and ancient plants living millions of years ago) , different types of fossil fuels (including oil, natural gas, and coal), and whether oil and gas are naturally occurring here in Ventura County (they are!).

Ventura Citizens for Energy Independence is committed to supporting STEM education and informing our neighbors about the resources and industry in our communities through Careers in Energy.
