Cinco de Mayo Revealed

In partnership with the League of United Latino American Citizens (LULAC) and California Resources Corporation, VCEI hosted another community event at the Palazzio in Santa Paula on Thursday, April 4. Dr. David Hayes Bautista joined us for the second year in a row, for a presentation of his work, Cinco de Mayo Revealed. Santa Paula families and students enjoyed good food, folklorico and a celebration of heritage!

Dr. Hayes Bautista was inspirational and informative about the historical role of Mexicans throughout American History. And we learned that Cinco de Mayo celebrations started in California as celebrations broke out after news spread of the Mexican Victory at the Battle of Puebla. Even though Cinco de Mayo has passed this year, let us remember Dr. Hayes Bautista’s messages of pride in our history of Mexican American culture.
