THUMS Island Tour

High school students with Channel Islands Upward Bound/CIDream and League of United Latin American Citizens Oxnard youth programs toured California Resources Corporation’s (CRC) oil and gas production site on THUMS islands in Long Beach. Students were inspired by CRC’s Process and Water Quality Engineer Esmeralda Macedo, who shared with students her pathway to a career in the oil and gas industry. Esmeralda talked about the different types of careers that make the islands productive – pipefitters, electricians, chemists, geologists, process specialists and even boat captains to name a few. She also shared how the industry promotes diversity in its workforce.

During the tour, students learned how oil and gas is safely produced in California – to ensure workers, the community and the environment are protected. And, what goes into being a good neighbor to harbor residents and wildlife. Thank you California Resources Corporation and Esmeralda for the educational opportunity!

THUMS islands produces 21,000 barrels of oil per day, each barrel = 42 gallons of gasoline.
